Faculty in the LeBron James Family Foundation School of Education implemented a research-based mentorship initiative to meet the learning needs of middle and high school students in the Barberton City Schools. The focus is enhancing youth academic performance by setting and assessing their progress, through sustained dialogue, towards college and/or career goals.
University Mentors
University teacher candidates are assigned to a Barberton classroom based upon their major (Social Studies, Language Arts, and Special Education). This mentorship takes place over the course of the semester under the direct supervision of their professors and cooperating Barberton teachers. University mentors are on-site every day of the semester working with their matched mentees individually, in small groups, or in teams. The mentors serve as positive role models who help motivate and inspire youth.
