Chapter Bio:

Kappa Sigma at The University of Akron is what we call A Brotherhood Like No Other! The Pi-Rho Chapter of Kappa Sigma was founded on April 4, 2009, celebrating its 15th year in 2024. Our Chapter has earned many awards, including Kappa Sigma’s Founders Award of Chapter Excellence twice since 2020. The Chapter annually holds our Warrior Week philanthropy week in April, raising money for the Military Heroes Campaign and veterans charities. Since 2017, Warrior Week has raised over $12,000 in donations to veterans charities. Our Chapter has been awarded through the international Fraternity and by the Greek office for our commitment to service and philanthropy.

Our Brotherhood enjoys paintballing, tailgating, and supporting Zips and Cleveland sports teams. We enjoy interacting with our Brothers at Kent, Bowling Green, and Ashland, building the bonds of Brotherhood that can't be broken. Our Chapter allows Brothers and Pledges to gain leadership experience by sitting on numerous committees and attending Kappa Sigma’s annual conference each summer. This is a chance to hone leadership skills and meet over 1,500 Brothers from every part of North America. The 2025 Grand Conclave will take place in Las Vegas, Nevada

Kappa Sigma was founded at the University of Virginia on December 10, 1869, and since then, it has initiated more than 270,000 men on over 400 college campuses throughout the United States and Canada. The oldest fraternity in the world, which was established in 1400 in Bologna, Italy, and it was founded under the principle of mutual protection in the Italian Renaissance. In 1869, it was brought to America, where we continue with the ideals of our founders.

Scholarship is an important tenet of Kappa Sigma, and to that end, each Fall, at least one $500 scholarship is awarded to an Undergraduate Brother. Our Chapter also has a fully developed scholarship plan to help you strive to be at the top of the class and manage your time correctly. As a Brother, we hope to help you develop in new ways and prepare you for your career.
